You'll find fresh duck, chicken, salmon, cod, lamb, turkey and wild boar across the range — the same quality protein sources we use in our dry kibble. Wet food is particularly valuable in a number of situations. Dogs recovering from illness or surgery often accept wet food more readily than dry kibble. Senior dogs with dental issues find the softer texture much easier to eat. Puppies transitioning from mother's milk to solid food often do better with wet food initially. And fussy eaters who refuse dry food will almost always accept a good quality pâté.
Many owners use wet food as a "topper" — a spoonful or two mixed into dry kibble to boost palatability and add moisture. This is an excellent strategy for dogs who drink too little water or who've gone off their dry food during warm weather.
Both have their merits, and the best approach for most dogs is a combination of both. Dry food is calorie-dense, convenient, and helps maintain dental health through the mechanical action of chewing. Wet food provides more hydration, is easier to digest, and is more palatable — particularly for dogs with dental pain or those recovering from illness.
The key is quality in both formats. A premium wet food like ours — with 70%+ named meat content and no grain fillers — is equally nutritious to our dry kibble. It's simply a different delivery format. A low-quality wet food with meat derivatives and grain fillers, however, is no better than a low-quality dry food.

A single 400g tin of Essential Foods pâté is a complete meal for a small to medium dog (roughly 10–15kg). For larger dogs, it's best used as a topper or supplement to dry kibble. Feeding guidelines based on your dog's weight are printed on each tin. If using as a meal supplement rather than a complete meal, reduce the dry food portion accordingly.
Yes — and this is one of the most popular feeding strategies for Irish dog owners. Adding a spoonful or two of pâté to dry kibble improves palatability, adds moisture, and often increases food motivation in fussy dogs. Use the same protein source in both formats (e.g. Nautical Living dry + Nautical Living pâté) to avoid mixing proteins, which can occasionally cause digestive upset in sensitive dogs.
